Sludge Metal from the Swamps...

Sludge Metal, a genre that sounds exactly like the title, like slow, swampy sludge. I will also include stoner and the occasional doom metal album on here, as I feel they share the same sort of slowed down, heavy wall of distortion I love from sludge.

acid bath - kite string pops

Acid Bath - When the Kite String Pops
Released: August 8th, 1994

Favorite Tracks: Touababo Koomi, God Machine, The Blue

My favorite sludge metal album of all time, holy shit this album is so good. Please if you've never listened to it, at least listen to The Blue. If you like that then I promise you'll like the rest.

electric wizard - dopethrone

Electric Wizard - Dopethrone
Released: September 25th, 2000

Favorite Tracks: We Hate You, Barbarian, Funeralopolis

An incredible doom/stoner metal album from a great band. Pretty much all their albums are sick, this is just the one I decided to write about. I love the oppressive wall of sound this album constantly has.

eyehategod - needed for pain

Eyehategod - Take as Needed for Pain
Released: November 22nd, 1993

Favorite Tracks: Shop Lift, White Neighbor, Ruptured Heart Theory

A grueling, angry album of constant discontent. Eyehategod is a major part of the NOLA/Louisiana sludge scene and for good reason; Their music is just so, well, sludgy.

soilent green - sewn mouth

Soilent Green - Sewn Mouth Secrets
Released: September 22nd, 1998

Favorite Tracks: It Was Just an Accident, Build Fear, Her Unsober Ways

This album as more southern, bluesy flair than most sludge metal and I feel it really enforces the southern, swampy feeling this kind of music has. Like how Build Fear starts off real bluesy its cool.

brain oil - brain oil album cover

Brainoil - Brainoil
Released: September 9th, 2014

Favorite Tracks: Naive in a Bliss, Inquisition, Wielding Strength

These guys are pretty good! I've only listened to this album but it's just some good ole sludgey stuff. Really solid and I recommend it.
